MOSCOW, July 16 (Sputnik) - Former French champions Monaco, who last captured the Ligue 1 title in 2017, have lodged a formal offer for CSKA Moscow and Russia midfielder Aleksandr Golovin, a source familiar with the situation told Sputnik Monday.
"Monaco have made an official offer for Golovin to CSKA. Plus the club has an offer from Chelsea. It is highly probable that it will become clear later this week where he will carry on with his career," the source said.
Scouts from a number of European sides, including Italian champions Juventus and Spanish champions Barcelona, were earlier reported to have watched Golovin play at the World Cup in Russia, where the 22-year-old started for the hosts in four matches, chalking up a goal and two assists.
Golovin, who has been at CSKA since 2014 and is contracted to the capital club until 2021, scored seven goals in 43 matches for the team last season. Golovin helped the Muscovites win their most recent Russian Premier League title in 2016.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup came to a close on Sunday, with France beating Croatia 4-2 in the final in Moscow to lift the trophy for the second time. Russia had reached the quarter-finals, which was their best result at the tournament since the end of the Soviet era.
