MOSCOW, July 16 (Sputnik) - Moscow's Luzhniki and Spartak Stadiums were full to capacity for every match they hosted during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the head of Moscow’s Department of Sport and Tourism Nikolay Gulyayev told Sputnik on Monday.
"Moscow, as one of the city organizers of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, hosted 12 matches that were held with a 100 percent attendance, with each game at the Luzhniki Stadium played out in front of 78,011 fans and each encounter at the Spartak Stadium played out in front of 44,190 fans," Gulyayev said.
He added that the atmosphere at both Moscow's arenas was friendly and festive.
"Fans from different countries were supporting their teams actively... They are coming home with positive emotions. I'm sure that Moscow’s citizens and the numerous visitors to the city will long remember the tournament," Gulyayev said.
Russia's first-ever World Cup came to a close on Sunday, with France beating Croatia 4-2 in Moscow to lift the trophy for the second time. Russia reached the quarter-finals of their home tournament after advancing to the knockout stage for the first time since the end of the Soviet era.
