MOSCOW, June 15 (Sputnik) - The press office of the Moscow Administration of the Russian Interior Ministry told Sputnik late on Thursday that no violations of public order had been registered at the 2018 FIFA World Cup opening match between hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia.
"Police officers and representatives of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardia) in cooperation with the organizers of the event took all the necessary measures to ensure... security during the grand opening ceremony of the World Cup and the first... match of the tournament between the Russian and the Saudi Arabian national teams. There were no violations of public order," the press office said.
Russia beat Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the first match of the tournament at Moscow's 81,000-seater Luzhniki Stadium. They will face Egypt in St. Petersburg on June 19 and Uruguay on June 25 in their remaining group stage games.
The World Cup will continue through July 15, with a total of 64 matches set to be played at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities.
