ST. PETERSBURG, July 16 (Sputnik) - More than 1.3 million fans visited the FIFA Fan Fest in St. Petersburg during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the press service of the organizers said on Monday.
"A total of 1,303,464 people visited the FIFA Fan Fest in St. Petersburg. The average attendance was 43,000 people per day (considering two days off)," the press service said in a statement.
Representatives of all the 32 participating nations and fans from countries which had not qualified for this summer's tournament, namely China, the USA, Algeria, Canada, Kazakhstan and others, visited the fan zone during the World Cup in Russia.
"No incidents with supporters happened at the fan zone in St. Petersburg during the World Cup. All the festival's visitors noted its amazing atmosphere. The changing weather also did not cause problems for the football fans," the statement read.
Over 40 musical bands performed and about 100 volunteers worked at the Fan Fest. Around one million internet users visited the festival's accounts on social networks every day.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup started on June 14 and came to a close on Sunday after 64 games had been played in 11 cities across the country. A total of seven matches, including a semi-final and the match for the third place, were held in St. Petersburg.
