SAMARA, June 29 (Sputnik) - Over 166,000 fans attended matches that were held in the Russian city of Samara during the 2018 FIFA World Cup group stage, the press service of the region's government said Friday.
A total of 48 matches were played in the group stage at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities. The 42,000-seater Samara Arena hosted four of them. Serbia beat Costa Rica 1-0, Denmark drew with Australia 1-1, Uruguay thrashed hosts Russia 3-0, and Colombia defeated Senegal 1-0 there.
"A total of 166,099 fans attended the group stage matches held at the Samara Arena," the press service said.
They added that about 350,000 fans have visited the Samara's FIFA Fan Fest since the beginning of the tournament.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
