"Over 400,000 passengers watched the two World Cup semi-final matches on the screens in the metro trains. The matches between France and Belgium and between England and Croatia were broadcast live on 8,720 screens in 1,896 metro coaches," LiksutovĀ  said.

He noted that match broadcasts in the metro were one of the most popular innovations at this summer's tournament.

"Photos of screens showing live broadcasts of the World Cup have become one of the most popular posts in tourists' social networks," Liksutov added.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the final set to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
