MOSCOW, July 17 (Sputnik) - Over 70,000 football fans visited Moscow’s State Historical Museum, situated in Red Square, during this summer's FIFA World Cup, the museum’s press service said on Tuesday.
“A total of 142,152 people visited the Historical Museum, with 70,545 of them being football fans. The Historical Museum provided a 30% discount for the fans, and volunteers took them on free tours of the museum in various languages,” the press service said.
Earlier in July, legendary UK singer and Rolling Stones front man Sir Mick Jagger, who arrived in Moscow to support England in their World Cup semi-final against Croatia, took a walk around Red Square and visited iconic St. Basil’s Cathedral, which is one of the divisions of the museum, where he listened to a church choir.
"We were happy to welcome the famous musician and show him the cathedral," the press service added.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and came to a close on Sunday, with France defeating Croatia 4-2 in the final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
