MOSCOW, June 1 (Sputnik) - Football fans have booked more than 85 percent of the seats in the free trains that will travel to the cities hosting group-stage matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup to be held in Russia this summer, Director General of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Transport Directorate Kirill Polyakov told Sputnik on Friday.
"Fans from 155 countries have booked 85 percent of the seats in the free trains to the matches of the 2018 World Cup group stage and 60 percent - for the knockout stage. The top five countries after Russia are Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, the United States and China," Polyakov said.
He added that 396 out of the 734 free trains were fully booked with St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Samara being the most popular destinations.
Fans must purchase match tickets and have a valid Fan ID in order to be able to reserve a seat free of charge.
Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
