MOSCOW, May 29 (Sputnik) - A total of 96 percent of Russians are aware of the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in 11 Russian cities this summer, a fresh poll by the Nielsen research company revealed.
The survey, released late on Monday, further indicated that 84 percent of the respondents in Russia and the same amount of people around the globe are going to follow the matches of the upcoming World Cup.
As much as 73 percent of Russians and almost the same number worldwide will follow the games at home, while the share of Russians, who are planning to watch the tournament at bars and pubs, stands at 24 percent against almost 30 percent worldwide, according to the poll.
Moreover, 67 percent of Russians believe that hosting the World Cup will have a long-term positive effect on their homeland, while 70 percent think that Russia’s reputation abroad will improve due to the prestigious event.
The survey was conducted online in April in 24 countries, including Russia, among people aged from 11 to 69.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will take place between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums in the following Russian cities: Moscow, Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi and Yekaterinburg.
