HELSINKI, July 16 (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference following talks with US leader Donald Trump, in response to a question about who now owns the initiative in the Syrian issue, presented the official ball of the World Cup to his US counterpart and said that it was now on his side.
"As for the fact that the ball in Syria is on our side, the president [Trump] just said that we had successfully held the World Cup, speaking about the ball ... To hand over this ball to Mr. president - now the ball is on his side," Putin said, giving Trump the official soccer ball of World Cup 2018.
"Especially, taking into consideration the fact that the United States will hold the World Cup in 2026," Putin recalled.
Trump thanked the Russian leader for the gift and expressed hope that the United States would also cope well with this task.
