MINSK, May 29 (Sputnik) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei on Tuesday signed a temporary agreement on mutual visa recognition for the upcoming large sport events – 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the 2019 European Games in Minsk, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

The document, which was signed in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, is set to come into force on June 1 and will be valid until the end of the 2019 European Games (June 30, 2019). The two countries are still negotiating a permanent visa recognition agreement, which is expected to be signed by the end of 2018.

Visa-free entry from Belarus to Russia for World Cup 2018 foreign fans will be in effect from June 4 to July 25, Makei told reporters after talks with Lavrov.

"During the FIFA World Cup this year a visa-free regime for foreign fans on the territory of Belarus will be in effect from June 4 to July 25," Makei said.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14 till July 15.
