INNSBRUCK, May 31 (Sputnik) - Villarreal and Russia midfielder Denis Cheryshev said that the team needed to analyze the mistakes they had made in their 1-0 defeat by Austria in a pre-World Cup friendly and move on "with a positive attitude."
The warm-up match took place in the Austrian city of Innsbruck on Wednesday night, with FC Schalke midfielder Alessandro Schopf scoring the only goal of the game in the 28th minute.
"It's a shame that we've lost. We'll be playing against similar opponents during the World Cup as well. We have to analyze our mistakes and move on with a positive attitude," Cheryshev said adding that both teams had chances but Russia failed to convert theirs.
The 27-year-old midfielder also said that the team would fight to achieve better results and that intensive training was no excuse for not playing well against Austria.
Russia's preliminary squad have been training in Austria since May 21 and are set to head back home later on Thursday ahead of their final pre-World Cup friendly against Turkey in Moscow on June 5.
Russia will host the FIFA World Cup for the first time from June 14 to July 15 at 12 arenas in 11 cities. The hosts are set to play Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
