MOSCOW, May 31 (Sputnik) - Russia midfielder Aleksandr Golovin and defender Igor Smolnikov underwent doping tests following the team's 1-0 defeat by Austria in a pre-World Cup friendly in Innsbruck, the Russian team said Thursday.
"Yesterday, after the match, two players from both the Russian and Austrian teams took part in the doping control procedures. Aleksandr Golovin and Igor Smolnikov from Team Russia underwent the tests," the Russian team said via their official Twitter account.
Golovin was in the starting line-up for Russia in the game against Austria and was substituted in the 76th minute, while Smolnikov came off the bench in the 68th minute.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities.
