The Russian Football Union's (RFU) anti-discrimination officer and former Chelsea midfielder Alexey Smertin said on Wednesday that the RFU could introduce World Cup-style Fan IDs for football supporters attending matches of the Russian Premier League in the near future.
A Fan ID is a personalized document which is part of an identification system for football fans and is obligatory for everyone who has a ticket to any of the games of the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
"We want the [Fan ID] system to be implemented at the Russian Football Championship. I understand all the responsibility that goes with having a Fan ID. It disciplines all the fans who come to the stadium. Many of them start behaving differently," Smertin said.
