MOSCOW, May 24 (Sputnik) - The Russian consumer rights watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, said Thursday that Russian hotels had been fined more than 9.2 million rubles (over $148,000) for overpricing ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
"The total amount of the imposed administrative fines increased comparing to last week and reached over 9.2 million rubles," the watchdog said in a statement published on its official website.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, a total of 756 cases of price inflation for hotel services had been revealed so far.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 15 in 11 host cities, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg, and Sochi.
