MOSCOW, June 4 (Sputnik) - Russia head coach Stanislav Cherchesov said on Monday that CSKA Moscow's Brazilian-born defender Mario Fernandes is having no problems with adapting to being part of Russia’s squad.
Fernandes, who obtained Russian citizenship in 2016, was named in Russia's final squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.
“Mario [Fernandes] has blended in. There were six CSKA players [in the preliminary World Cup squad], our physical trainer is also from CSKA and we will play [Turkey] at the CSKA Arena tomorrow. I think he has had no problems [with adaptation],” Cherchesov said.
Fernandes was capped once for Brazil before becoming a Russian citizen and has subsequently made four international appearances for his new country since 2017, including Wednesday's 1-0 friendly defeat by Austria.
Russia will host its first-ever World Cup from June 14 to July 15, with the hosts set to face Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
