ST. PETERSBURG, June 4 (Sputnik) - Former Russia forward Dmitry Radchenko told Sputnik on Monday that it did not matter if Egypt striker Mohamed Salah played in the group stage clash against Russia at this summer's FIFA World Cup.
"It does not matter if Salah plays against Russia or not. Football is a team game. We all know who Salah is and what he can do on the pitch. However, his possible absence in the match against Russia does not mean that it will be easier for our team. Of course, he could be a significant loss for Egypt, but we need to look at how the entire team plays," Radchenko said.
The 25-year-old Liverpool forward was named in Egypt's final FIFA World Cup squad earlier on Monday, despite damaging his shoulder in the Champions League final on May 26.
Earlier, the media reported that Salah's recovery would take no more than three weeks and he would be fit to play for his country against Russia in St. Petersburg on June 19.
Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15, with the fixtures set to be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
The host nation and Egypt, along with Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, have been drawn in Group A.
