FIFA's disciplinary committee opened proceedings against two Swiss midfielders, Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri, who are of Albanian-Kosovan heritage, for celebrating their goals against Serbia with an eagle gesture in a symbol of the two-headed eagle on the Albanian flag. The duo has been fined just over 10,000 Swiss francs [$10,000]. The football's world governing body also opened disciplinary proceedings against the Serbian Football Association for crowd disturbance and the display of political and offensive messages by Serbian fans and later fined the association 54,000 Swiss francs ($54,000).

"I believe that we shouldn't mix politics and sport, it's important to stand aside politics. It seems to me personally that FIFA did not have consistent criteria when fined our team and the Swiss team. She fined our head coach, the Serbian Football Association up to 54,000 Swiss francs [$54,000]and the players of Switzerland were fined 10,000 francs [$10,000]. It is still clear that there are some double standards there," Slavenko Terzic said.

On Thursday, the Serbian team, who has finished their World Cup campaign, left for Belgrade.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
