"It is expected that more than 20 charter flights from Germany, Spain, Portugal and Belgium will arrive in Sochi... The airport's capacity has been increased to 900 people per hour," the officials said.

They added that international visitors would not need visa as this would be replaced by FAN ID during the World Cup.

"It [FAN ID] allows [foreign citizens] to stay in Russia for the entire period of the World Cup. Visitors with this document have the right to arrive in Russia 10 days before the date of the first football match and leave no later than 10 days after the date of the last game," the officials said.

Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
