According to the Spanish radio station COPE, Ramos and his family were forced to change their phone numbers after receiving death threats following the Real captain's collision with the Egyptian star player in the first half of Liverpool's 3-1 defeat by Real. Salah injured his shoulder in the clash and then left the pitch in tears.

More than 500,000 people have signed an online petition calling on UEFA and FIFA to punish Ramos for "intentionally hurting" Salah, while media reported that Egyptian lawyer Bassem Wahba had filed a $1.1 billion lawsuit against the Spanish defender.

Salah, who scored 44 goals for Liverpool last season, was named in Egypt’s preliminary squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, but the injury put his participation in doubt.

However, the Egyptian Football Association said on Wednesday that the 25-year-old should recover within three weeks and could be fit in time for Egypt's match against Russia to be played in St. Petersburg on June 19.

Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities. Egypt will face Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and the host nation in Group A.
