ST. PETERSBURG, May 30 (Sputnik) - St. Petersburg's transport infrastructure is ready for this summer's FIFA World Cup and all of the city's transport facilities will function safely, Russia's Deputy Transport Minister Nikolay Zakhryapin said Wednesday.
"We have every reason to conclude that St. Petersburg is ready [for the World Cup], the transport system will function safely and without troubles, as always. The citizens as well as our guests, and the participants of the tournament, will be completely safe while using different means of transport," Zakhryapin told journalists at the Transport Security international forum.
Russia will host its first-ever FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15. Matches will take place in a total of 11 cities including St. Petersburg, which will host four group-stage games, a Round of 16 match, a semi-final and the third-place match at the 67,000-seater St. Petersburg Stadium.
