MOSCOW, June 14 (Sputnik) - FC Krasnodar striker Fedor Smolov and CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin were named in Russia's starting eleven for the opening match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the team said Thursday.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup will get underway at 6:00 p.m. local time (15:00 GMT) on Thursday with the match between the hosts and Saudi Arabia at Moscow's 81,000-seater Luzhniki Stadium.
Russia's starting eleven:
Goalkeeper: Igor Akinfeev;
Defenders: Mario Fernandes, Ilya Kutepov, Sergei Ignashevich, Yuri Zhirkov;
Midfielders: Roman Zobnin, Aleksandr Samedov, Aleksandr Golovin, Alan Dzagoev, Yury Gazinsky;
Striker: Fedor Smolov.
The FIFA World Cup will continue through July 15, with the he matches set to take place at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
