MOSCOW, July 12 (Sputnik) - The UK Embassy in Moscow has been informed about the location of UK football fan Douglas Moreton, who got lost on his way back to the Russian capital from Samara, the press service of the Moscow Department of the Russian Interior Ministry told Sputnik on Thursday.
"The location of the foreign citizen has been communicated to the UK Embassy," the press service said in a statement, adding that the fan is currently at a hotel in Moscow.
Earlier on Thursday, the Volga Region Transport Prosecutor’s Office told Sputnik that the fan had arrived at Moscow’s Kazansky railway station, which was confirmed by video surveillance footage, after departing from Samara on Tuesday.
According to earlier reports, the fan’s relatives said that he had gone missing and they had not heard from him since the previous week, while a source told Sputnik that the Moscow Police Department received a message from a Russian citizen, stating that the English fan, born in 1958, boarded a train from Samara to Moscow and after that all communications with him were lost.
Samara, situated almost 540 miles southeast of Moscow, hosted its last World Cup match on July 7, with England beating Sweden 2-0 in the quarter-finals. The Three Lions went on to lose 2-1 to Croatia in the last four.
