NIZHNY NOVGOROD, July 5 (Sputnik) - Uruguay head coach Oscar Tabarez said on Thursday that the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was "the best World Cup in history."
"This World Cup is one of the best in history, and I'd even say it is the best one, in terms of organization and all the aspects," Tabarez told journalists.
Two-time former champions Uruguay will take on 1998 World Cup winners France in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday. A team of referees led by Argentinian Nestor Pitana will officiate the game.
"Argentinian referee's appointment to officiate the match was sheer accident... He [Pitana] is a good referee... I just hope that we'll manage to show our playing manner and go further tomorrow. We should think positively, it's not because of disrespect to the opponents that I think about victory, the opponents are really strong. But... we should be confident that we'll manage to win," Tabarez added.
Uruguay have never won a match officiated by Pitana.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
