MOSCOW, July 16 (Sputnik) - The visa-free entrance to Russia granted to all football fans who attended the FIFA World Cup matches this summer will bolster the development of tourism in the country, Head of Russia's Federal Agency for Tourism Oleg Safonov told Sputnik on Monday.
On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Fan ID holders would be allowed multiple visa-free entrance to the country until the end of 2018. A Fan ID was an obligatory document for everyone who bought tickets to the World Cup games in Russia.
"The president's decision will only have a positive effect on the development of tourism in Russia and will increase the number of people coming to the country," Safonov said.
He added that at least some of over a million people, who came to Russia for the World Cup, will return to the world's biggest country to travel to its other parts beyond the 11 cities that hosted the tournament.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and came to a close on Sunday with France beating Croatia 4-2 in the final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
