An opening ceremony for the 2018 FIFA World Cup volunteer center was held at the Mordovia Arena in Saransk, the press service of the region's head Vladimir Volkov said on Tuesday.
“I am happy to welcome our friends from Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Mexico City, Cairo, Jakarta, Minsk and Astana… Volunteers are the face and soul of the World Cup in Russia. Around 200,000 people will visit Saransk alone, and we should warmly welcome every single one of them,” Volkov said as quoted by his press service.
According to the press service, more than 10,000 people from 54 countries had applied to volunteer in Saransk.
Saransk is one of the 11 host cities where the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held from June 14 to July 15. The city will host a total of four group stage matches.
