A volunteer center has been opened at St. Petersburg Stadium ahead of 2018 FIFA World Cup, the press service of city's Vice Governor Igor Albin said on Tuesday.
Over 1,500 volunteers will be working in St. Petersburg during the World Cup assisting at the stadium, the airport, train stations, the FIFA ticketing center and accreditation centers as well as football teams' bases and hotels during the matches.
"We would not be able to host the World Cup without volunteers. You [volunteers] will be able to get in touch with people from around the world. You’re the ambassadors of not only the World Cup, but your country Russia,” FIFA World Cup Senior Competitions Manager Julio Avellar told journalists at the opening event.
The majority of the volunteers, selected to work at the tournament, have previous experience working at the 2017 Confederations Cup and can speak English.
St. Petersburg is one of the 11 host cities where the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held from June 14 to July 15. The 65,000-seater St. Petersburg Stadium will host seven World Cup games, including four group stage matches, a round of 16 games, a semi-final and the third place match.
