Oriflame and Faberlic cosmetics companies both engaged in illegally using FIFA World Cup imagery, the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) said on Saturday.
Following the opening of proceedings against Oriflame and Faberlic, the FAS established that both companies used 2018 FIFA World Cup signs or ones almost identical to them in their products and advertisements without FIFA's approval, the service said in a statement.
"Consumers were left under false impression that Oriflame and Faberlic were involved in the football festival," FAS added, stressing that illegal use of such symbols could lead to considerable material damage as well as potentially harm Russia's reputation as the host nation of the tournament.
Administrative proceedings will be launched against both companies in the near future, the agency concluded.
