The 2018 FIFA World Cup final between France and Croatia was the third most viewed game during the tournament on television by Russians, which was equivalent to 53.9 percent of the country's population, Mediascope research company said on Tuesday.
France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup after beating Croatia 4-2 in the final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Monday (AEST).
"Despite the final match being the highlight of the whole tournament, it took only the third place in the list of the top five most viewed matches in Russia. The rest of the list was comprised of Russia’s matches," the statement by Mediascope said.
The game between Russia and Croatia was the most viewed match, with Russia’s victory on penalties against Spain in second. In fourth place was Russia’s 3-1 group stage win against Egypt and rounding off the top five was the opening match against Saudi Arabia, which Russia won 5-0.
