EXCLUSIVE: Losing superstar Travis Dodd to Asia would smash a huge hole in Adelaide's line-up - but Eugene Galekovic says the club shouldn't stand in his way.
"It would be a massive loss. Travis is a great guy and a great player. But it all comes down to business," Galekovic told au.fourfourtwo.com.
Dodd is contracted to Adelaide until the end of the 2010-11 campaign. And like a number of players in the hugely impressive Reds line up, their performances across Asia have alerted some of the bigger continental clubs, particularly as the J-League has increased room for visa players by one.
One such club is Kashima Antlers, who 28-year-old Dodd helped knock out of the ACL last week. His performances in both legs were electrifying.
"If a transfer fee can be agreed upon then we should let him go for Travis's sake and the club's sake," said Galekovic.
Reds CEO Michael Petrillo told the Adelaide Advertiser: "It would cost prospective clubs big-time to have one of the A-League's most dangerous running midfielders in their line up.
"He'd have to want to go and I'm sure we would listen to anything they have to say but it would have to be a pretty good deal for us to let him go.
"Where can you get another Travis Dodd?"
He added: "If he was happy we wouldn't be interested in letting him go for less than a seven-figure sum.
"But it's not my call, the club owners make the final decision."
And Galekovic – who has been in stunning form at A-League and ACL level – would also entertain a move from Hindmarsh Stadium when his contract expires.
Galekovic, a former Olyroo at the Athens Olympics, has a contract till the end of season 2009/10. He will be 29 then and around his peak years for a glovesman.
Then the Victorian-born Red would look to take his career to the next level.
He admitted: "I still do have aspirations to go overseas and play in better leagues in Europe."
