The Socceroos were beaten 3-2 by world champions Germany in their opening match at the Confederations Cup in Sochi overnight.
After falling behind to Lars Stindl’s opener with just five minutes on the clock, Ange Postecoglou’s side drew level though Tom Rogic before Julian Draxler restored Germany’s lead from the penalty spot.
The instrumental Leon Goretzka made it 3-1 before Tomi Juric pulled one back for the Socceroos.
But which players stood out on the night? Here are our player ratings.
AUSTRALIA
Mat Ryan 6.5- A couple of decent saves in the first half to deny the lively Julian Brandt. Possibly could have been quicker off his line to stop Germany’s third.
Milos Degenek 5- Wasteful in position on the right side of a back three. Struggled to get to grips with Draxler, who caused havoc cutting in from the flank.
Trent Sainbury 6.5- Another solid performance in the heart of defence. Made several blocks and interceptions to stop threatening crosses.

Bailey Wright 5- Endured a difficult first half as Germany ran riot down the right flank. Improved after the break as he became more comfortable on the ball.
Mark Milligan 5.5- A poor first half saw the combative midfielder give the ball away on numerous occasions. Looked more comfortable when Aaron Mooy was moved alongside him.
Massimo Luongo 3.5- Subbed off at half time. Was slow to close down opposition players in midfield, while his clumsy challenge led to the penalty. Distribution was poor too.
