The Socceroos were beaten 3-2 by world champions Germany in their opening match at the Confederations Cup in Sochi overnight.

Julian Brandt 8- Australia couldn’t live with him in the first half. Regularly bombed down the right flank, drawing opposition players out of position. Assisted Stindl’s opener.
Julian Draxler 7.5- Crosses from the left were dangerous all night. Constantly drifted into the middle of the pitch to help out his midfielders. Calm penalty restored Germany’s lead.
Sandro Wagner 5.5- Difficult night for the Hoffenheim man. Squandered a couple of chances before being subbed off before the hour mark.

SUBS
Timo Werner 5.5- Replaced Wagner on 58 minutes. Looked a little livelier but struggled to make a major impact.
Niklas Süle 5.5- Came on for Brandt with less than half an hour to go. Not as threatening compared to the Bayer Leverkusen man.
Emre Can N/A– Replaced Stindl with 14 minutes remaining. Not enough time to give a fair rating.
