The much-travelled boss will sign a one-year contract after Leao reached a mutual agreement to leave the club on April 3.

"We signed a year`s contract with Paulo," confirmed board member Renato Duprat on radio network GE.Net.

"But he will be officially introduced to the players and the press on Monday."

Former Paraguay national team coach Carpegiani will not take the reins for Corinthian's next match on Wednesday against Nautico in Recife, as temporary coach Jose Augusto will retain his position.

Carpegiani's first match in charge will instead be on April 26 in the second leg of their Copa do Brazil last-16 tie, also against Nautico.

Carpegiani's biggest club success to date came in 1981 - at giants Flamengo - where he won the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup.

His experience in Brazilian football is extensive, having coached Internacional, Coritiba, Bangu, Nautico, Sao Paulo and Palmeiras.

He has also been at the helm of Ecuadorian's Barcelona, Arab's Al Nasser and Paraguayan's Cerro Porteno.
