Taggart, who has represented Australia at both under-20 and under-23 level, will play the season out at Glory where he has struggled for first-team opportunities this term.

The 18-year-old, who has worked previously with Jets boss Gary van Egmond while at the Australian Institute of Sport, said he was happy to be reuniting with his former mentor.

"It's a very exciting time to be part of the Jets who are making big plans for the future which I think is obvious through their recruitment and retention of several exciting players," Taggart, who made his A-League debut in 2010, said on Friday.

"I would also like to thank Perth Glory for the opportunity they gave me with my first professional contract, but I think the time is now right to take the next step in my career and challenge myself in a different environment.

"I am looking forward to playing as much first team football as possible next season and making a real impact on the league."

Jets coach van Egmond added: "It is a good credit to him, particularly at his young age, to have been involved in the Olympic qualifiers and it just shows how highly regarded he is."

"He will fit into the culture we are trying to build at the Jets and we look forward to working with him when he arrives here."

Meanwhile, midfielder Adam Hughes has also left Glory, signing a deal with Chinese second division club Dalian Yiteng.

Both parties agreed to mutually terminate Hughes' current contract, allowing him to join the Chinese outfit with immediate effect.

Hughes follows Glory winger Mile Sterjovski in China, after he joined Dalian Aerbin earlier in the week.

Glory coach Ian Ferguson said: “It’s disappointing to lose two players at this stage of the season but as the team showed last night, there is a lot of character in the group.

“We made re-signing Adam Taggart a priority and offered him a contract several weeks ago. It’s disappointing we are losing a young West Australian but we understand and respect his decision.”
