1. Carlos Hernandez (Melbourne Victory)

Melbourne Victory's bulky Costa Rican attacking midfielder has been a star since heading to Australia in mid-2007 and contributed greatly to the club's success over the past few years.

Hernandez played a major role in helping Victory do the double in the 2008-09 season although he had his critics early on who felt he was overweight. However, during the 2009-10 term he produced arguably his best campaign in Australia. The midfielder fired in an outstanding 12 goals, finishing equal third in the Golden Boot race, before winning the Johnny Warren Medal and the Foreign Player of the Year awards.

The Costa Rican's list of A-League highlights includes several wonderful free-kicks and spectacular long-range efforts. However, his sensational swerving 35-yard goal against Gold Coast United during the 2009-10 season may have been his best. Fans may also forget he provides assists too, chipping in with seven during the 2010-11 campaign.
