3. Dwight Yorke (Sydney FC)

It's easy to forget what former Manchester United striker Yorke did for the A-League in its inaugural season. Not only was he the face of the league, but he also guided Sydney FC to 2005-06 title winning the Joe Marston Medal in the Grand Final triumph over Central Coast Mariners.

Of course, the Trinidad & Tobago man spent only a little more than one season in Australia, but he made a huge impact in his time in the A-League, as the perfect example of how the marquee spot should be used.

Yorke's off-field attraction was combined with an outstanding on-field impact where Pierre Littbarski opted to play him in midfield to allow him to boss games, such as the 2006 Grand Final where he laid off the assist for Steve Corica's winner. Yorke also netted seven goals during the 2005-06 season, finishing equal second in the league's topscoring list.
