6. Fred (Melbourne Victory, Wellington Phoenix & Melbourne Heart)

The Brazilian set the standard for unheralded imports in the A-League way back in 2006-07 when he played a major part in Melbourne Victory's double success, providing the most assists in the competition for that particular season.

However, Fred's crowning glory came in the 2007 A-League Grand Final when he laid on four assists – although Archie Thompson stole the show with five goals – as Victory thrashed Adelaide United 6-0. Such was his reputation, Wellington lured him back to the A-League as a guest player in 2008, before Heart secured his services for the upcoming 2011-12 campaign.
